Electro-char is a carbon based adsorbent material that facilitates the physical adsorption of contaminants on active sites of the material and co-localizing it with a bacterial biofilm. This process is highly effective at removing and ultimately biodegrading organic and inorganic pollutants in both aqueous and non-aqueous environments. We engineer our electro-char with incredibly high surface area density, several grams having more surface area than a soccer field, encouraging dynamic biofilm formation and amplified adsorptive sites. We also specifically manufacture electro-char with conductive properties, a unique feature amongst other adsorbent materials, which allows us to manipulate biofilm formation and remediation techniques with an applied electrical current.
